Postcard from WW1 300x500.jpg (42222 bytes)Welcome to Military Archive Research presented by Dr Stuart C Blank. I have been involved with researching military (naval, army & air force) topics for a number of decades and I have developed a wealth of expertise in this field. I aim to provide clients with a first class professional research service and previous clients have significantly benefited from this outstanding level of customer care and research expertise.

I am always prepared to undertake research into the Royal Navy (RN), the British army, the Royal Air Force (RAF) and Royal Flying Corps (RFC) genealogy (family history) and history. I can also consider those projects relating to the Indian army, the Indian Navy and the Honourable East India Company (HEIC) provided they pre-date 1947. In addition, I undertake Merchant Navy commissions as I have considerable experience in this field .

I am an Independent (Freelance) Researcher at a number of the major archive facilities in London and I have held this position for more than ten years. I have spent many enjoyable hours at the archive facilities and I still find researching very rewarding and satisfying.

Over the years my research activities have taken me to

  • National Archives - Public Records Office (PRO)
  • National Army Museum
  • RAF Hendon Museum
  • The British Library (Oriental and India Office)
  • The British Library (Newspaper Library), and,
  • Regimental museums

The topics I have undertaken include:

  • military (naval, army & air force) genealogy & records of service,
  • unit histories (squadrons, regiments etc),
  • gallantry and other medal awards,
  • research into the Merchant Navy records,
  • ship's logs for Royal Naval and British shipping,
  • the effects of the Battle of Britain on air warfare strategies,
  • the development of weapons of mass destruction (nuclear & chemical), and,
  • the treatment of Scottish prisoners during the English / Scottish wars

The vast majority of enquiries cover military genealogy and the location of unit / ships at a given time. I will consider other military related topics if I believe I can add value to the research. If you have a topic that needs researching, please ask if I can help. This website is an introduction to the research services I can offer and I hope it is sufficiently  informative to answer the initial questions usually posed.
